SGA LAUNCHES FLIGHTS FROM CHIANG MAI HUB TO NORTHERN CITIES
Chiang Mai-Phrae. Chiang Mai-Pai. Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai.

Siam GA (SGA), one of Thailand’s commuter airlines, has made the northern city of Chiang Mai its hub for new flight operations serving the four northern destinations of Chiang Mai, Phrae, Pai and Chiang Rai.

The airline has been operating its Chiang Mai-Phrae and Chiang Mai-Pai routes since 1 February 2007 and will be adding a Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai service to its northern route network on 1 April 2007.

The routes are served by Cessna 208B Caravan aircraft with a seating capacity for 12 passengers. The Cessna is a light aircraft well-suited to low-altitude flights.

The SGA air shuttle services serving Chiang Mai-Phrae, Chiang Mai-Pai, and Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai (from 1 April onwards) significantly reduce the travel time between destinations set in mountainous terrain and provide ease of access to the remote but increasingly popular destinations of Phrae and Pai.

The flights are ideal for travellers with little time or those who prefer to avoid long drives along mountain roads with numerous sharp hair-pin bends.

The Chiang Mai-Pai flight is 20 minutes, the Chiang Mai-Phrae flight is 30 minutes, and the soon-to-be-introduced Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai is 36 minutes.

These new development reflect SGA’s response to growing market demand for fast, comfortable, convenient and affordable air travel. It is also underscores the growing economic importance of the northern Thai cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as centres of travel and trade and ‘gateways’ to the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The move is in line with national policy to establish Chiang Mai the regional aviation hub for Northern Thailand.

For travellers flying from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, or vice-versa, Nok Air offers the best connecting flights.
