Bangkok, 3 September, 2015 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has appointed Ms. Pornanong Phatlum, Thailand’s best-known female professional golfer as the brand ambassador for the Amazing Thailand Golf Paradise initiative aimed at building awareness of the kingdom as a world-class golf destination.
Mr. Sugree Sithivanich, TAT’s Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications said, “We are promoting the Amazing Thailand Golf Paradise project via the ‘Thainess through Celebs’ campaign not only to push Thailand forward internationally as Asia’s golf paradise, but also as the complete golfing destination for female golfers. We have currently seen the rising popularity of golfing among females, both amateurs and professionals to go tee off on Thailand’s courses. At the same time, a number of international golf tournaments have included ladies in the competition. Therefore, TAT has selected Ms. Pornanong, the rising star on the women’s tour, as Thailand’s Golf Brand Ambassador to promote the country as a world-class golf destination for women and to publicize the Amazing Thailand brand and our 2015 Discover Thainess campaign.”
Ms. Pornanong has joined various LPGA Tours. In 2014, she competed in a total of 27 tournaments collecting a cash prize for the amount of 1.8 million US dollars (1.6 million Euros.) She is currently placed as 30th in the Rolex World Ranking. Moreover, Ms. Pornanong made her outstanding place in earning the championship from the Hitachi Ladies Classic and recently in 2015, she has been ranked third in the US’ JTBC Founders.
Mr. Sugree added, “Golf tourism has long been seen as a niche market. Moreover, Thailand can boast some of the best courses in the world, many designed by well-known golfing names with great value for money and state-of-the-art facilities, attractions underlined by the excellent services from professional caddies. Golfers also get the chance to enjoy the kingdom’s infinite variety of tourism services, festivals, food, and fun, which are offered by the golf destinations, not to mention our renowned Thai hospitality. For ladies, they can partake in several leisure activities after a round of play, such as spa treatments, facials, Thai cooking classes, or shopping in local markets and luxury malls.
Thailand is the popular golf destination among Asian golfers from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan. A number of European golfers also choose Thailand as their preferred golf destinations, especially those from Scandinavia, Germany, France, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Asian golfers are normally here for a 3-day/2-night and 4-day/3-night golf package, but often come to Thailand more than once a year, while European golfers are here for about a week.
