Bangkok, 14 September, 2015 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) cordially invited Mrs. Mao Weitao and 75 members of the Zhejiang Yueju Opera Troupe to pay respect to the people who lost their lives during the recent tragic explosion incident at the Erawan Shrine. The ceremony, graciously presided over by H.E. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, took place this morning.
The Zhejiang Yueju Opera Troupe is a renowned female troupe from China, known for its dramatic staging. The Troupe was in Bangkok during 11-13 September, 2015, to perform its most famous production, The Butterfly Lovers, at the Thailand Cultural Centre to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Thai-Chinese Relations.
The Butterfly Lovers, voted as the Best Opera Company in China in 2015, featured Mrs. Mao Weitao, the only female opera singer in China to have been awarded the prestigious Plum Awards three times. An extremely popular opera singer, Mrs. Mao Weitao has over 20 million fans.
