Bangkok, 29 August, 2016 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) welcomed a group of women from Kunming, China who are visiting the kingdom to join the “Lady Chef in Thailand” event from 27 August to 1 September, 2016, and to take part in fun culinary activities while learning to make a range of popular Thai dishes.
Mrs. Srisuda Wanapinyosak, TAT Deputy for International Marketing Asia and South Pacific said, “Thailand can boast to have one of the world’s most popular cuisines and Bangkok certainly has some of the best restaurants, so this is the natural place to come if you want to pick up great cooking tips and learn some amazing new dishes. The Lady Chef in Thailand event gives like-minded women the chance to get together and have fun while enjoying a truly Thai experience and taking home new skills.”
Jointly organised by the TAT Kunming Office and Kunming Qianzhenhe Food and Beverage Group, the owner of the Yaowarat Thai Restaurant in Kunming, the activity will comprise a cooking class in the kitchens of Bangkok’s famous Blue Elephant Restaurant and excursions on the Bangkok-Rayong route.
During the cooking class, dishes that the participants will learn to make include the Blue Elephant’s own version of the Thai classic Tom Yam Kung (spicy coconut soup with tiger prawn), Sen Chan Phat Khi Mau (spicy stir-fried Chan noodles), Kaeng Neua Fak Thong (beef and pumpkin curry), and Khua Kling Kai (Southern Thai style spicy stir-fried chicken curry). They will also be taught a little of the history of Thai gastronomy to promote a better understanding of the nation’s culinary culture.
After the cooking class, the participants will travel to the source of many of Thailand’s best ingredients on the Bangkok-Rayong route. They will visit the fruit orchards of Rayong and go on a tasting tour as well as experience some of Thailand’s beach life at the holiday island of Ko Samet, also in Rayong.
The “Lady Chef in Thailand” event forms part of the TAT’s Women’s Journey Thailand campaign that is aimed at encouraging women to travel in the kingdom during the month of August. There has also been a “Lady Golf Challenge”, a “Thailand through Her Eyes” photography trip and “The 84 Perspectives of Thailand” media familiarisation trip, which saw bloggers and photographers from around the world come to explore the attractions of the kingdom.
