When: 19 November 2017
Where: Laguna Phuket
The 24th running of the famed Laguna Phuket Triathlon, scheduled for 19 November 2017, continues to build on its reputation as one of the most popular and longest running triathlons in Asia, and is a permanent fixture on the Thailand Event Calendar.
Dubbed the ‘Race of Legends’ for good reason, its history includes a long list of legendary triathletes who have run the event over the years. It is regularly mentioned as one of the world’s best triathlons which is a testament to the unique race topography that takes place around the tropical holiday island of Phuket.
Race categories include a gruelling individual triathlon (1.8km swim, 50km bike ride, and 12km run) with starting time between 06:30 to 06:40am and the team relay triathlon (1.8km swim, 50km bike ride, and 12km run) that starts at 06:40am.
This year’s Laguna Phuket Triathlon introduces an exciting new 50-kilometre bike course after safety and technical adjustments due to Phuket’s rapid development and population growth, ensuring a safer, faster race after almost a quarter century of using the old course. Organisers believe the new track offers a better race experience through scenic tropical parklands, rubber plantations, pineapple fields, beaches, hills and temples as it weaves its way through local villages of Thalang District in northern Phuket.
The 1.8-kilometre swim course remains the same as in previous years and comprises two challenging swimming segments. It starts between the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket and Outrigger Laguna Beach Resort, with a 1,300-metre ocean swim before a short beach sprint and another 500-metre lagoon swim that finishes at Laguna Grove.
It concludes with a 12-kilometre run that leads runners north through the Laguna Phuket resort complex before looping back past its Wedding Chapel and the Canal Shopping Village that also finishes at Laguna Grove.
