BANGKOK, 28 November, 2017 – Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn (2nd from left), Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), received the award from Mr. Donald Ong (2nd from right), Mastercard’s Country Manager – Thailand & Myanmar, on the occasion that Bangkok has recently been ranked as the world’s favourite holiday destination, taking the top spot in the Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index 2017, for the second consecutive year.
The Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index 2017 ranked a total of 132 destination cities around the world on their total international overnight visitor arrivals and the cross-border spending by these visitors in 2016. For Bangkok, this amounted to 19.41 million overnight visitors and visitor spend of US$14.1 billion.
Earlier this year the Mastercard Asia-Pacific Destinations Index 2017, which is an off-shoot of the Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index also named Bangkok first among 171 destinations throughout the region.
Also joining the casual award presentation ceremony at the TAT Headquarters in Bangkok were Mr. Tanes Petsuwan (left), TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, and Mr. Desmond Choong, Research Economist, The Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth.
