The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Hat Yai municipality and Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization are joining hands again this year to stage the ‘International Balloon Festival at Hat Yai’ from 11-13 May 2018 at Jiranakorn Stadium in Hat Yai.
Filling the skies with larger-than-life colour during this popular three-day event will be 17 spectacular hot air balloons from nine countries. A popular occasion among the many Amazing Thailand festivals and events that take place each year, the ‘International Balloon Festival at Hat Yai’ is open each day from 16:00 Hrs. to 22:00 Hrs.
The highlights of the festival include the Balloon Night Glow performances – which feature up to six or seven balloons and an array of dazzling light and sound effects in the stadium itself, the Walk On Balloon attraction where kids can take photos and get up close to the hot air balloons, and hot air balloon shows featuring balloons from Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Germany and Malaysia.
Festival-goers can also enjoy a hot air balloon ride to take in the picturesque Songkhla countryside, peruse the souvenir and food stalls, taste the fruits buffet and chill to live music.
Just under 1,000 km from Bangkok, Hat Yai is Songkhla’s commercial and business hub and the largest city in southern Thailand. It’s a popular tourist destination for visitors from neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore as well those from Indonesia, China and India.
Hat Yai’s various tourist attractions include the Hat Yai floating market, Magic Eye 3D Museum, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum and its marine dioramas and dinosaur exhibition, Hat Yai Municipal Park and Phra Maha Chedi Tripob Trimongkol.
