The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released an infographic on “5 Steps to Legalise Proof of Relationship Documents for Chinese Bereaved Families and Relations” to provide support for families and relatives of those who lost their lives during the recent tragic Phuket boat incidents.
- The families and relatives in China are advised to contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing or the Royal Thai Consulate General in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Kunming, Xi’an, Nanning, Qingdao and Xiamen with the following documents:
- Copy of the deceased person’s passport.
- Proof of relationship:
- For the next of kin, take the proof of relationship to the Notary Public to get the documents translated and legalised (Chinese to English).
- For those who are being authorised by the family, take the proof of relationship between the deceased person and the family, power of attorney, copies of the passport and ID card of the involved persons, and get all documents translated and legalised (Chinese to English).
*Proof of relationship includes:
– Original copy of the Household Registration.
– Original copy of the Marriage Certificate (for spouse).
– Original copy of the Birth Certificate (for parents).
– Original and photocopy of the relative’s passport.
– Original and photocopy of the relative’s ID card.
- The families and relatives in China who do not have a passport are advised to apply for an urgent passport at the Immigration Bureau in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or at other locations. For more information, please call: +86 (010) 59913991.
Then, they are advised to proceed to apply for an ‘urgent visa’ at the Royal Thai Embassy or Royal Thai Consulate General as indicated in Step 1. *Or they can opt to obtain an urgent visa-on-arrival’ at the Phuket Immigration Bureau Express Line. Once having obtained a visa, they are ready to travel to Phuket.
- Upon arrival at the Phuket International Airport:
- If already have a visa, proceed to the special immigration lane.
- If do not have a visa, proceed to the special visa-on-arrival counter.
- After the Immigration process, proceed to the Passenger Services Counter at the Phuket International Airport, Tel: +66 (0) 76 327 100.
- Staff at the Passenger Services Centre will take the families and relatives to the designated areas or authorities concerned.
Remarks: For families and relatives who are in Thailand, they are advised to contact representatives of the Chinese Embassy and Chinese Consulate-General in Phuket, Tel: +66 (0) 64 235 1752, +66 (0) 76 304 180. The documents required for legalisation in case of: 1) repatriating the body of the deceased; 2) giving consent to serious medical treatment.
