Bangkok, 21 September, 2018 – Thailand is basking in the glory of another award filled week after winning the ‘Destination of the Year‘ award at the 29th Annual TTG Travel Awards 2018 held at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre.
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications Mr. Tanes Petsuwan said the TAT was delighted to again be recognised by the region’s leading and longest running travel agent awards.
“We are very grateful to TTG Travel Awards 2018 for what is really the leading accolade that any country’s travel industry can be awarded in Asia. TTG Asia set the trends that others can only hope to follow, and we are grateful for the decades of support they have continued to offer Amazing Thailand,” Mr. Tanes said.
TTG’s editorial panel singled out the TAT’s ‘Amazing Thailand Go Local‘ initiative as a driving force behind the award.
The campaign included an action-packed schedule of unique Thai local experiences and a marquee of international events during 2018. It specialised in daily lifestyle interactions with Thai local communities around Bangkok and out to the far corners of the Kingdom.
This special honour, falls under the Outstanding Achievement Awards category, is presented to the region’s most outstanding destination. Thailand has distinguished itself this year by topping the charts in arrivals, its savvy marketing and its initiatives towards the development and promotion of the travel industry.
‘Destination of the Year‘ is the only awards category where winners are entitled to give a brief ‘Academy Award’ like acceptance speech upon receiving the award. Which is fitting as the 24K gold-coated Hermes trophy might not be an ‘Oscar’, but it is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards of its kind in Asia Pacific.
First held in 1989, TTG Travel Awards celebrates tour and tourism industry in the Asia Pacific. It gives awards to company, organization or government that are considered to be the best in the travel industry. The award categories are classified into travel agent, hotel and resort, airlines, MICE and tourism practitioners.
At the 29th Annual TTG Travel Awards 2018, the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Thai Airways International were also conferred the title of Travel Hall of Fame. Other awards for Thailand included Bangkok Airways as the Best Boutique Airline, Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok as the Best City Hotel – Bangkok, and Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld as the Best Meetings & Conventions Hotel.
