Bangkok, 27 November, 2019 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand is delighted to provide support to the staging of the “Amazing Thailand Countdown 2020 at ICONSIAM”, on 31 December, 2019, as part of the “ICONSIAM Presents Bangkok Illumination 2019” Christmas and New Year celebration, from now until 5 January, 2020.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “The Amazing Thailand Countdown is one of the biggest events which TAT stages annually in various destinations across the country to bid farewell to one year and welcome the new one. This year, TAT is staging the celebrations in Bangkok and five other provinces; namely, Ratchaburi, , Phatthalung, Kalasin, Sa Kaeo, and Lop Buri.”
In Bangkok, the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2020 at ICONSIAM will be staged under the concept of “Seven Wonders of Blessings”, with the highlight being the seven-acts fireworks show above its River Park stretching over 1,400 metres along the Chao Phraya River.
The eco-friendly fireworks are an innovative and sustainable product from Japan, and all seven acts have auspicious meanings.
1st – The Glory: Begins with golden showers of fireworks representing the glorious victory over the land and water and telling the world that this is the golden land blessed by the reigns of Thai Kings until the present time.
2nd – Health Giving: Wishes the King a long life. The fireworks blast up into the sky and expand like a big tree spreading out its branches. This represents the loving kindness of His Majesty the King towards the Thai people.
3rd – Way up High: Points to the moral glorification of religion. The fireworks that light up the sky can be compared to enlightenment that leads the way to a peaceful life.
4th – Joy to the World: Felicity and peace. Colourful fireworks in thin and big lines spread through the sky with the joy of happiness, representing the contentment of the people leading a happy life in this peaceful land.
5th – Diamond in the Sky: Wealth and the national resource called Suvarnabhumi – the land of abundance. The fireworks are like diamond flashes that scatter over the sky, resembling seeds that have been spread and will soon grow.
6th – Lucky Star: Fortune and harmony. Small and large fireworks in various colours light up the sky on the New Year’s Eve and welcome the New Year as if bringing an auspicious blessing to the Thai people as well as their everlasting happiness.
7th – Power of Love: Divinity to protect the country. The red fireworks represent the power of love, care, and protection that will prevent the water from allowing evil to step on the land.
Apart from the River Park, the public can also watch the fireworks from ICONSIAM’s 7th Floor as well as from nearby locations including the Chaloem Phrakiat Park, Sathon Pier, Wat Suwan Pier, Royal Thai Marine Sub-Division 2, CAT Bang Rak, Khlong San Pier, Holy Rosary Church, and Samphaeng Car Park.
Other locations to watch the fireworks are Charoen Krung Creative District, Lhong 1919, Asiatique the Riverfront, and hotels along both sides of the Chao Phraya River – Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula, Royal Orchid Sheraton, Millennium Hilton, and Shangri-La – all of which will also organise countdown activities and be filled with decorative Christmas and New Year lights.
The Marine Department and Chao Phraya Express Boat will provide services and various modes of transport and other facilities for visitors.
The Amazing Thailand Countdown 2020 will be taking place during the “ICONSIAM Presents Bangkok Illumination 2019” Christmas and New Year celebration, from now until 5 January, 2020, featuring Thai-inspired Christmas trees over the River Park promenade.
