Thailand is a land of festivals and celebrations that reflect Thai traditions and cultural values. There is much to see and do when it comes to temple festivals and celebrations, with many being originated from local traditions, folklore, and the way of life. Many have taken place over the course of a year for centuries.
Between this week and the last week of March, there are many festivals and celebrations taking place at temples across the country. Each event has its own outstanding features, which differ from region to region.
This week itself is particularly significant as it includes the important Buddhist festival of Makha Bucha Day, which falls on the full moon day of the third lunar month. This year’s Makha Bucha Day is on Saturday, 24 February.
Here are just some of the many temple fairs and celebrations that tourists are encouraged to witness and experience local traditions and cultural values.
