TAT Celebrates ITA Airways’ Inaugural Nonstop Rome-Bangkok Service

Strengthening Thailand-Italy tourism and business connectivity with a new five-weekly nonstop Rome-Bangkok service

Bangkok, 18 November 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is delighted to welcome ITA Airways’ inaugural Rome-Bangkok flight, enhancing travel links and fostering stronger tourism and business ties between Thailand and Italy. This new direct route provides Italian travellers with streamlined access to Thailand’s renowned attractions and vibrant culture.

The inaugural ITA Airways Flight AZ0758, an Airbus A330-900neo with a seating capacity of 291, arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport from Rome yesterday, carrying over 300 passengers and crew, including ITA Airways executives and prominent Italian travel industry leaders.

Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, America, Middle East, and Africa, said “We are thrilled to welcome ITA Airways’ new Rome-Bangkok service, which offers Italian travellers access to Thailand’s culture, beaches, and hospitality while strengthening ties between our countries. This route will foster travel and cultural exchange, benefiting both tourists and business travellers.”

Mr. Siripakorn and H.E. Mr. Paolo Dionisi, Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, greeted passengers upon arrival, presenting special souvenirs to commemorate the occasion.

TAT will unveil its upcoming strategic partnership with ITA Airways at a Press Conference and Networking Dinner taking place this evening at Capella Bangkok, showcasing the collaboration’s potential to enhance bilateral travel and economic engagement.

Operating with five weekly flights, ITA Airways’ new route connects Italy and Thailand as part of the airline’s expanding intercontinental network and is anticipated to be a highlight of the 2024/2025 Winter season.

Flights from Rome to Bangkok depart every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at 15:15 (local time), arriving the following morning at 07:40. Return services depart Bangkok on the same day at 12:15, arriving in Rome at 19:00.

This new ITA Airways route joins a strong lineup of flights to Thailand for the 2024/2025 Winter season, highlighting the country’s appeal as a premier destination for global travellers. With expanding connectivity, Thailand is ready to welcome visitors to its rich culture, natural beauty, and renowned hospitality.

From January to 14 November 2024, Thailand welcomed 209,666 Italian tourists, representing a 40.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Most of these visitors were repeat travellers, comprising Free Independent Travellers (FITs) and families on vacation. The average spending per trip was approximately 59,561 Baht.

Looking ahead to 2025, TAT plans to collaborate with key tourism partners in Europe, including airlines and tour operators, during peak travel seasons to further reinforce Thailand’s position as a world-class destination.
