Bangkok, 2 December 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is proud to support Zeekr’s electric vehicle (EV) caravan, an initiative that underscores Thailand’s commitment to sustainable tourism and cross-border travel. This collaboration marks a key milestone in the Thailand-China partnership as both nations approach the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
Zeekr, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, launched its EV caravan, comprising 12 electric vehicles and 48 participants, which began its journey from China, passing through Laos before entering Thailand on 26 November 2024. The caravan is en route to the 41st Thailand International Motor Expo 2024, running from 29 November to 10 December at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, where Zeekr is set to showcase its state-of-the-art EV technology.
On 26 November 2024, the caravan was officially welcomed in Nong Khai Province by Mr. Rattasart Chitchoo, Deputy Governor of Nong Khai. Hosted by TAT, the reception was attended by local officials and representatives from various sectors, showcasing Thailand’s commitment to welcoming visitors with the highest safety and service standards.
This initiative aligns with TAT’s long-term objectives to promote experiential tourism and expand its reach within the eastern regions of China. The caravan’s route, which spans key Thai provinces such as Nong Khai, Udon Thani, and Pattaya, highlights the growing potential of cross-border travel and the increasing popularity of electric vehicle tourism in Southeast Asia. Through this collaboration, TAT aims to raise awareness of Thailand as an environmentally conscious travel destination.
“Supporting this pioneering EV caravan reflects TAT’s commitment to sustainability and promoting Thailand’s eco-tourism potential,” said Ms. Tharinee Somboon, TAT Deputy Director of the East Asia Region. “This event also exemplifies our ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with China and showcases Thailand’s ability to offer unique and sustainable travel experiences.”
Promoting Thailand as a Top Destination for Chinese Tourists
In addition to showcasing Thailand’s green tourism initiatives, the arrival of the Zeekr caravan marks a significant moment for the growing Chinese tourist market. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand welcomed over 6 million Chinese tourists between January and November 2024, making China the largest source of international visitors to Thailand. Chinese travellers are particularly drawn to Thailand for its renowned hospitality, stunning landscapes, and rich culinary culture.
Exposure from the caravan is expected to reach over 100 million people across both countries, further boosting Thailand’s appeal as a travel destination. The project also aims to promote Thailand’s scenic attractions along the caravan route, increasing visibility and recognition in China.
