Bangkok, 2 September, 2015 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is inviting local and international tourists to discover Thainess at the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem Market, under the theme “Thrilled with GI Products, Enchanted with Community Identities” from 1 to 27 September, 2015, from 10.00 – 19.00 hrs.
Located adjacent to the Thai Government House, the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem Market has been spearheaded by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha as part of the government’s policy to develop more channels for Thai agricultural products to provide opportunity for farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs to sell their products, create more income, and promote product development.
The “Thrilled with GI Products, Enchanted with Community Identities” fair will feature products that represent the identity of each community; such as, tea from Doi Mae Salong (Chiang Rai), cotton and fabrics from Ban Na Kha (Udon Thani), nielloware from Nakhon Si Thammarat; as well as, products that are registered as Geographical Indication (GI); such as, Doi Tung coffee, Nakhon Chaisi pomelos, Phu Lae pineapples, Nang Lae pineapples, Thung Kula Ronghai Hom Mali rice, Chaiya salted eggs, and Trang grilled pork.
There will be presentations of products from the different locations in two rounds. Products from the northern and northeastern regions are scheduled to be displayed on 1-13 September. Products from the central, eastern, and southern regions will be arranged on 14-27 September.
The event will provide local and international tourists the chance to discover Thainess through a wide variety of unique products, each proudly represents the distinctive way of life and identity of each community.
The fair will also feature exciting promotional activities, including a photo contest to win free air tickets, “Golden Minute” flash sales sessions, and a “27 days, 27 prizes” lucky draw campaign, as well as business knowledge activities; such as, lectures, advice, and demonstrating sessions.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the opening ceremony of the “Thrilled with GI Products, Enchanted with Community Identities” fair on 7 September, 2015, at 17.00 hrs.
The Market area can be easily reached by public transport including buses and taxis. For visitors using Bangkok’s thriving mass transit systems, they are advised to get off at the MRT subway Hua Lamphong Station, and continue the journey to the fair by taking the complimentary shuttle boat services at Charoen Sawat 36 Bridge in front of Hua Lamphong Raiway station which are available daily from 11.00-20.00 hrs.
