Nick was a competitive racer for many years, rode in the Tour de France and in 1996 he won the Commonwealth Bank Classic.
There was even a race named after him. His last professional race was aptly named the Nick Gates Classic in Townsville, Australia – and of course, Nick won! His racing career took him from Australia to Thailand. On October 29th we caught up with Nick at the Ride to Khong’s Legendary road race in Nong Khai which is in the Northeast of Thailand.
Nick Gates now serves as the Director of the Thanyapura Cycling Academy in Phuket. Nick represented the Thanyapura team and felt disappointed after the first leg of the race because of the wind.
Overall, Nick had a blast exploring Northeastern Thailand, seeing the Mekong River, and making new friends. For the latest updates about Nick, catch him at Thanyapura Phuket Cycling Academy.
