Thailand marks the Golden Week with a special airport welcome for Chinese tourists

Bangkok, 6 October, 2016 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in collaboration with Don Mueang Airport and representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China as well as Thai tourism stakeholders marked the Chinese Golden Week 2016 with a special airport welcome for Chinese tourists coming to enjoy the many delights of the kingdom.

The special welcome ceremony at Don Mueang Airport is being held daily for one arrival flight from China from 3-7 October, 2016.

In this press release, the special welcome ceremony was held on 5 October, 2016, for Chinese travellers travelling with Thai AirAsia flight FD509 from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and flight FD583 from Kunming in southern China.

The delighted Chinese arrivals were greeted with Rum Klong Yao (long drum dance), which is traditionally performed in Thailand to welcome especially valued guests.

The guests also each received a special souvenir to mark their visit to the kingdom during this celebrated week when Chinese families often come together to travel and enjoy new experiences.

Chinese travellers travelling with Thai AirAsia flight FD509 from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China

From January to September, 2016, there were a total of 3,726,548 arrivals from China at Don Mueang Airport from a total of 23,012 flights, representing a year-on-year increase of 44.81 per cent and 27.94 per cent, respectively.
