Bangkok, 07 September, 2017 – The weekend of 2 -3 September, 2017, saw the Creative Lamphun Festival take place in Lamphun, a key date among regional events & festivals, which was aimed at showcasing the Northern province’s appeal as a creative tourism destination and to highlight some of the various activities and attractions on offer to tourists.
The Creative Lamphun Festival was open from 10.00 – 21.00 Hrs. on Saturday and Sunday, and pictured here at the event’s opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon with some of the participants (6th from left) Mr. Wiboon Nimitrwanich, Tourism Authority of Thailand Executive Director of the Northern Region, and (9th from left) Mr. Veerachai Phupeangjai, Deputy Governor of Lamphun province.
The two-day event held at the Tourist Centre Lamphun Municipality was a wonderful opportunity on the Thailand event calendar for tourists and the local community to come together and further build a relationship with benefits for all.
The show featured the Creative Craft Zone, which highlighted local craft products; such as, silk weaving, fabric and clothing; the Creative Workshop Zone demonstrating the art of silk weaving and the making of fashion accessories from coconut shells, among other products, and the Creative Food Zone displaying fusion food that blends modern and local styles.
Lamphun is famous for its longan fruit and the highlight of the Creative Lamphun Festival was demonstrations of cooking using longan by The Fcuk’n Chef group. Another popular drawcard was a social media activity where people could snap and then share pictures of their visit to the Festival to receive a souvenir.
Festival-goers were also able among other things to learn how to make longan cake, create silverware and bamboo handicrafts, make their own ‘Owl bag’ from fabric cotton remnants, and also traditional cotton clothes embellished with embroidery and Job’s-Tear seeds which are still worn by some villagers today.
