The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Bangkok Airways are joining hands again this year to stage the second ‘Bangkok Airways Chiang Rai Marathon 2018’ on 16 September 2018.
Starting and finishing at Chiang Rai City Hall, it is one of the biggest marathons in the northern province and offers a great chance to explore Mueang Chiang Rai district in the late rainy season when the air is fresh, the atmosphere is cool and nature is in abundance.
The event illustrates well just why the TAT is encouraging people to see Thailand from new perspectives as well as existing ones, in the Amazing Thailand ‘Open to the New Shades’ communication concept.
The race route weaves its way past Chiang Rai City Hall, Chiang Rai Central Prison and Karen Ruammit Village near Pang Chang (elephant camp) to the side of the Kok river where Karen goods are sold, and then along the river and back again along a shady nature route.
The ‘Bangkok Airways Chiang Rai Marathon 2018’ consists of four race categories – five, 10, 21 and 42 km – all of which start and finish at Chiang Rai City Hall.
Each distance has a given time in which to complete the run, as follows: the 42 km run starts at 03.30 Hrs. and concludes at 11.00 Hrs. (seven and a half hours), the 21 km run starts at 05.30 Hrs. and concludes at 09.30 Hrs. (four hours); the 10 km run starts at 06.00 Hrs. and concludes at 08.00 Hrs. (two hours) and the five km run starts at 06.15 Hrs. and concludes at 07.15 Hrs (one hour).
Entry fees are 500 Baht for the five km run, 550 Baht for the 10 km run, 700 Baht for the 21 km run and 900 Baht for the 42 km run, inclusive of a race tee and bib, commemorative medal, water, energy drink and fruit station nourishment every two km along the race route. Food and refreshment stations will also be in place at the finish line.
In addition to the above inclusions, runners who complete the race within the cut-off time will receive an Official Finisher T-shirt.
