Bangkok, 11 December 2018 – Thailand’s tourism industry is organising a Guinness World Record attempt for the biggest ‘Mango Sticky Rice‘ at the “We Care About You” event, to be held on 20 January, 2019, at Lakeside, Muang Thong Thani in Greater Bangkok.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon, Executive Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Product Promotion Department, said: “The record-breaking attempt will reinforce worldwide awareness about Mango Sticky Rice as a favourite Thai dessert and enhance Thailand’s positive image with mainland Chinese visitors.”
The National Legislative Assembly of Thailand (NLA) through its committee overseeing religion, arts, culture and tourism recently held a meeting with Thai tourism stakeholders in the public and private sectors to instigate a “Team Thailand” initiative. Part of the results is the organising of the “We Care About You” event alongside the Guinness World Record attempt for the biggest Mango Sticky Rice.
According to NLA President Mr. Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, the NLA should be another mechanism to help ensure the happiness of the Thai people. The NLA organised the “We Care About You” initiative because it recognises the recent sluggish growth in the number of tourist arrivals from China.
The “We Care About You” event is set to host over 10,000 tourists from China to join as witnesses for the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest ‘Mango Sticky Rice” dish. The previous record was in Dubai in 2016.
Thai singer Mimi Lee, who won a singing contest in China, will also attend the event and will bring thousands of her followers from China to witness the record-breaking attempt.
According to the NLA, the organising of the event has received overwhelming support from the general public and all concerned agencies of the Thai government. On 20 January, 2019, the event will be broadcast live via MCOT Thai TV and the National Assembly Radio plus appear on TBS via online media in China.
