Bangkok, 04 June, 2021 – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is organising the World Environment Day 2021, making it the 14th consecutive year since 2007 that the Thai capital has been joining world communities to promote public awareness on environment.
The United Nations designated 5 June every year as the World Environment Day and also established the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to implement environmental activities to encourage awareness on environment among people around the world to jointly take action in environment protection.
In 2021, the UNEP announced that this year’s observance of World Environment Day will be on the theme of ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.
Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the BMA, in cooperation with UNEP and network partners, is organising the World Environment Day 2021 as a virtual event under the city’s specific theme of “Decade of Restoration towards a Sustainable Green Metropolis”.
BMA’s activities under the World Environment Day 2021 will be conducted in the form of a 360° Virtual Exhibition at www.worldenvironment2021.bangkok.go.th (in Thai language only).
Among recent accolades to the BMA’s commitment towards a sustainable green city was its winning of the 2020 Asian Townscape Awards from UN-Habitat Fukuoka for the Klong Ong Ang renovation project, the Thai capital’s latest walking street launched in November 2020.
