Bangkok, 18 December 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), represented by Mr. Kittipong Prapattong, Deputy Governor for Digitalisation, Research and Development, participated in the Run to Remember 2024 at Chatuchak Park, Bangkok. Organised by the Australian foundation Hands Across the Water under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr. Peter Baines OAM, the event aimed to raise funds for Thai children and youth affected by the 2004 tsunami.
The occasion was attended by H.E. Dr. Angela Macdonald PSM, Australian Ambassador to Thailand, and Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, emphasising the significance of this humanitarian initiative.
Established in 2005 by Mr. Baines following his involvement in disaster recovery after the 2004 tsunami, Hands Across the Water has provided care and opportunities for vulnerable Thai youth. Its initiatives include Ban Tharn Namchai in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, a youth home for tsunami survivors; centres in Yasothon and Surin supporting HIV-positive youth; and the Hospitality Training Centre in Phang Nga. The foundation also runs Hands Experience Thailand, promoting sporting tourism activities like cycling events.
Mr. Baines’s dedication has been recognised with honours such as the Direkgunabhorn Royal Decoration in 2016 and the Medal of the Order of Australia, underscoring his impactful contributions to improving the lives of Thai youth and strengthening communities.
TAT expressed its gratitude for Hands Across the Water’s dedication, which continues to inspire hope and opportunities while strengthening ties between Thailand and Australia.
