The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) organised an Amazing Songkran Joyful Procession on 8 April, 2017, to officially get the Thai New Year celebrations off to a colourful start. The event marked the opening of the Amazing Songkran Experience Festival 2017, which is taking place in Bangkok’s Benjasiri Park from 8-13 April, and will give everyone a taste of the Thai New Year in the different regions of Thailand.

H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand helped to get the Amazing Songkran Joyful Procession off to a great start and welcomed people from around the world to enjoy a traditional Thai New Year, wherever they celebrated in Thailand.

The procession brought colour and Thainess to Sukhumvit Road and started with a show called Amazing Blossom of Siam followed by the entrance of the Songkran Goddess for 2017, Krini Devi, who rode atop a majestic elephant.

All five regions of Thailand with their myths, flowers and traditional dances were celebrated with floats in the procession. There was also a Green Songkran parade and a colourful look at how Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar celebrate their own New Year.

The Amazing Songkran Experience Festival 2017, to be held until 13 April, sees a part of Benjasiri Park divided into Four Zones. The arts, crafts, shows and displays will give everyone a taste of the Thai New Year in the different regions of Thailand.
