Bangkok, 09 October, 2017 – Bangkok Airways is launching a new direct flight between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, starting from 29 October, making it the only scheduled airline to fly to Vietnam’s largest island from Thailand. The airline will offer four flights per week, using a 70-seater ATR 72-600.
Mr. Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of Bangkok Airways said that the aim of this new launch was to enhance its network to cover the Indochina region, provide better flight connections for travellers, and offer regional connecting routes to Phu Quoc Island for codeshare partners.
“We anticipate that the majority of our passengers will be businessmen and tourists from Thailand and Vietnam. Moreover, having a link to this beautiful island of Southern Vietnam will make it easier for our passengers traveling aboard our code-share-partner airlines from around the world to connect to Phu Quoc and other major gateways of Vietnam such as Danang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City,” he added.
Mr. Puttipong (2nd from right) announced the launch of the new flight at a press briefing held alongside a photo exhibition under the theme “Phu Quoc … Pearl of Southern Vietnam” at Bangkok Airways’ Blue Ribbon Club Lounge in Suvarnabhumi Airport. Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Phu Quoc – known as Pearl Island, has recently been appointed as a Special Economic Zone by the Vietnamese Government with the expected annual economy growth up to 25–30%.
In 2016, Phu Quoc attracted over 1.45 million tourists from all over the world. With the 30-day visa free policy for foreigners, Phu Quoc now is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Southeast Asia for European travellers, especially Germany, England, France, Switzerland and Russia.
