Northern Thailand 3 Days Itinerary: Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are located in the Northern most in Thailand. Here, there are tons of hidden gems and underrated treasures, waiting to be discovered.
I have compiled all the best things to do in these two lovely northern Thai provinces in this three-day itinerary. 

This detailed 3 day travel guide itinerary will help your exploration in “The Rose of the North” of Thailand.

So Suit Up, Pack Up and Let’s go!

DAY 1 – Chiang Rai, Thailand

Start off your epic 3 day journey at Chiang Rai. It’s a great starting point filled with Northern Thailand gorgeous natural landscapes, activities, having a relaxed vibe and is full of culture.

1.  Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fah Luang Garden (Chiang Rai, Thailand)

Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fah Luang Garden is a place where true serenity meets captivating views. Truly a Twofer, two amazing places in one spot. Visitors to Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fah Luang Garden can experience the mother nature beauty and appreciate the efforts of the local villagers of Doi Tung.

Opening Hours: Daily 0800H to 1800H
Ticket Price: 220 Baht
Estimated Time Spent: 1 to 2 Hours 
(Add on extra time if you would like to chill over a cup of famous Doi Tung Coffee and get lunch)

2.  Baan Dam Museum (Chiang Rai, Thailand)

Baan Dam Museum (The Black House) is certainly a very different kind of place that you will expect. It’s unique. It’s beautiful. It’s macabre. I fall in love with it’s Dark Art which gives off this Sinister Feeling where you will feel moments of “there is something very wrong here”.

Opening Hours: Daily 0900H to 1200H & 1300H to 1700H
Ticket Price: Free
Estimated Time Spent: 1 Hour

3.  Singha Park (Chiang Rai, Thailand)

Singha Park is owned by Boon Rawd Brewery, the company who produces Singha Beer, but visitors hoping to find endless supplies of Singha Beer are out of luck. You will be WOW by the spectacular size of Singha Park. You can find many attractions in the park such as: Bike Trails, Zip Lines, Rock Climbing Tower, and Animal Farms. Festival & Sports events are also held regularly in Singha Park.

Ticket Price: Free (Bicycle Rental 100 Baht)
Estimated Time Spent: 2 to 3 Hours

4.  Chiang Rai Walking Street (Chiang Rai, Thailand)

Chiang Rai Walking Street runs along Thanalai Road for about 1km long, with stalls setup at both sides. The roads are closed off to cars from 5pm onwards, so you can expect more room to roam around. Chiang Rai Walking Street offers great food, atmosphere and friendly people. Most shoppers are Thai locals. It does get busy at times but that just adds up to the bustling feeling!

DAY 2 – Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, Thailand

It’s your second day in Northern Thailand. Time to conquer more Chiang Rai and move on to Chiang Mai, the Hub of the Northern Thailand.

1. Wat Rong Khun aka The White Temple (Chiang Rai, Thailand)

Wat Rong Khun or better known as the white temple, is a modern Buddhist temple located in Chiang Rai, Thailand. 

Wat Rong Khun is probably the most unique and beautiful temples in Thailand. The temple stands out through the stark white which signifies the purity of Lord Buddha and the pieces of sparkling glass in the plaster symbolising the Buddha’s wisdom and the Dhamma, the Buddhist teachings, shining out across the Universe.

2.  Yam Khang Fire Therapy at Ban Rai Kong Khing (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market runs along the full length of Ratchadamnoen Road (More than 1 km). Along the way, it sprawls into some of the side streets and temple grounds nearby, making Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market like a maze on its own. 

Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market is packed with local goods from the Northern Thai people. They would make and sell their own products and the quality of art and craftsmanship is amazing.

Estimated Time Spent: 2 to 3 Hours 
(Add on extra time if you would like to get dinner, a Thai massage and cover some serious extensive shopping)

Day 3 – Chiang Mai, Thailand

Start your day with some truly fresh natural air! Feel the clean air slices through your body. With each breath, making you feeling new and alive.

1. Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden is one of Thailand most gorgeous and exquisite manicured botanical garden. Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden sprawls over an area of about 1000 hectares and encompassed within this area are natural trails, canopy walkway, glasshouses ranging from hill evergreen through dry cactus area to fresh orchid zone.

2. Thai Style Go-Carts at Mon Chaem (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

Mon Chaem located at a mountain top which offers spectacular 360 degrees view of mountains all around you. During the monsoon season, you can expect amazing views of the fog that surrounds the mountain which makes you feel like on cloud 9. For adventure seekers, you definitely must try this exciting activity, which i call it: “The Mon Chaem Thai Style Formula One Go Karts Racing”.

Ending off the 3 Days In Chiang Mai And Chiang Rai with a BANG! Intense adrenaline rush from the Mon Chaem Go-Carts!

Now finally its time to head back to Chiang Mai International Airport and bid farewell to Chiang Mai And Chiang Rai (Northern Thailand). 

At least now you can truly say you’ve been to Thailand, and not just shopping in Bangkok or lying on phuket beaches.
