Bangkok, 26 March, 2018 – Nok Air inaugurated its maiden Bangkok-Mae Hong Son flight on 25 March, with the arrival of flight DD8214, operated by a 72-seat ATR72-500 turboprop, from the Thai capital to “the city of three mists.”
The official inaugural flight was witnessed by Mr. Arkom Termpitthayapaisith, Transport Minister; Mr. Suebsak Aiamwijan, Mae Hong Son Governor; Mr. Piya Yodmani, Nok Air CEO; Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, Thai Airways International (THAI) Acting President; and Mr. Chatchai Panyoo, THAI Smile Acting Managing Director.
Nok Air has launched the return Bangkok-Mae Hong Son service with three flights a week, in response to the Government’s recent directive to enhance access to secondary destinations across the country. The flight is operated under a codeshare agreement with THAI and THAI Smile.
Depending on demand, Nok Air may increase the frequencies, now on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, to a daily flight. The ATR72-500 turboprop was chosen for the Bangkok-Mae Hong Son route because it can operate on the shorter runway at Mae Hong Son airport.
In 2017, Mae Hong Son welcomed 862,219 tourists, generating 4.17 billion Baht for the province. Nok Air’s Bangkok-Mae Hong Son service is expected to bring at least 20,000 more tourists to the province during this year.
