A chanting ceremony was held yesterday evening at Wat Kosit Wihan in Mueang district, Phuket for the 34 people who lost their lives in the recent tragic boat incidents.
The event, chaired by Phuket Provincial Governor Mr. Norraphat Plodthong, was attended by families and relatives of the victims, Mr. Zhou Haicheng, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Songkhla, Mr. Chen Xiongfeng of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and representatives from the Chinese Embassy as well as high-ranking officials and representatives from all the related government and private organisations in Thailand.
As of yesterday evening, 41 people were confirmed dead, including 28 identified by family members. Of these, five bodies were cremated upon the request of their families: three at Wat Thepwanaram and two at Wat Phra Nang Sang. Two bodies were taken back home in China per their families’ request. 34 bodies are being kept at the temple.
