The “Nakhon Si Awesome” marketing campaign has been introduced by the Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial authorities to showcase the province as a modern and attractive destination with much to offer to visitors.
The word ‘awesome’ is used to describe the best attractions of the province in six distinctive categories.
Awesome Civilisation: The architectural and cultural heritage of Nakhon Si Thammarat including Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, the province’s most important temple and a nominated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here people can enjoy the annual Hae Pha Khuen That festival, which takes place on Makha Puja Day when the stupa of the temple is wrapped in cloth by locals to make merit. This event attracts Buddhists from all over the world, making it an amazing spectacle to see. Or join the locals in celebrating Songkran a unique way in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Awesome Handicrafts: Nakhon Si Thammarat is recognised as a land of high-quality arts and crafts, which are known for their exquisite craftsmanship and are still handmade using centuries-old methods of production. Popular souvenirs include Nielloware and silver products and the famous Pha Yok Mueang Nakhon cloth, which has gold and silver thread woven in to create a lustrous texture. Tourists can see these arts and crafts being made in the traditional way and help keep this amazing heritage alive.
Awesome Green: Nakhon Si Thammarat’s natural attractions include Krung Ching Waterfall and Khao Luang National Park with its stunning views as well as the lovely beaches of Khanom and Hin Ngam that are being highlighted as must-visit destinations, as they are unknown by many tourists and offer the perfect getaway from the crowds.
Awesome Lifestyle: Visitors can get a taste of a unique local lifestyle and live amidst nature in the coastal town of Ban Laem in Tha Sala district. Here locals lead a simple life in harmony with nature, and tourists can take part in traditional activities; such as, making bird cages or weaving palm leaves to make household items or even try a natural mud spa treatment in the sea.
